BIG BROTHER
"Big Brother" represents an aspect of Nicholas Swearer's interest in human interaction and contemporary social issues; for example, rapid dehumanization and loss of individual identity.
Hammered by hand from 1/2 inch thick steel, "Big Brother" is 10 feet tall and weighs 6,000 pounds. While his imposing scale and long arms are intended to create a feeling of intrusion, he has a gentle and unassuming face. He is just curious.
"Big Brother" represents scrutiny in a broad sense - government, society, your neighbors. "Big Brother" is meant to be interactive with his audience. People can sit on his hands and be weighed.
